Breakout I: Issues affecting the Millennial Generation

(Concurrent)

Game of Loans - The Student Debt & Default Crisis

As the most educated generation, millennials are completing their pursuits of higher education only to begin their newfound careers with mountains of student debt. It is now more important than ever for lawmakers to take action before the country reaches another default crisis akin to the 2007 housing bubble burst.

Rebuilding Trust - Millennials and the Criminal Justice System

States and localities are responsible for the facilities that hold more than 90 percent of the prison population. While mass incarceration and recidivism are issues on the national stage, there is much that individual states can do to create comprehensive criminal justice reform. From sentencing reform to community-based policing, states are innovating ways to restore trust and accountability in the system.

State of Care - The Future of the American Health System

Millennials are the largest, most diverse generation, and are dramatically impacting the way we think about health care. States legislators are leading the way in shaping the health care system, whether it’s providing access to innovative, affordable, and quality insurance plans, or developing ways to combat the opioid crisis. As this generation ages, legislators must find solutions to ensure Americans have the care they need.

The Future of Work - The Impact and Opportunities of the Gig Economy

Currently, 47% of millennials in the workforce are freelancing members of the gig economy, and that number continues to grow every year. By 2027, it’s predicted that a majority of the U.S. workforce will be composed of gig and freelance workers. Looking at the drastic reshaping of America’s economic landscape, how are lawmakers preparing their states for this new future in America’s workforce?

At MAP, our vision is to create a political environment where bipartisan cooperation is restored as our nation’s governing paradigm and our elected leaders work more closely together to address the challenges we face as a generation and as a nation.

Our mission is to re-establish political cooperation across parties and defeat the polarization and gridlock that is holding back our government and country. We work directly with our nation’s leading young policymakers on both a national and state level to spur bipartisan legislation and innovative policy solutions.

As a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit dedicated to activating millennial policymakers, MAP gives our nation’s young leaders the resources and support to create, introduce, and pass legislation and forge productive partnerships on the issues affecting the youngest generation of Americans.
